Numerous athletes are participating in sports at several colleges this season. And, a few of those have already stood out on the field. Here's a look at what some local athletes are accomplishing:

Baseball
Paul Hawkins, Moshannon Valley: Hawkins, a right-handed pitcher at Penn State, was recently named a Player to Watch in the team's 2007 Prospectus. In his career with the Nittany Lions, Hawkins has a 6-1 record and a 4.97 ERA. Penn State opens its season on Feb. 22 at High Point College in North Carolina.

Swimming and Diving
John Lytle, Clearfield: Lytle continues to impress at Notre Dame. The sophomore swimmer recently helped his team to a victory over West Virginia in the Shamrock Dual Meet Invitational. Lytle finished first in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:41. He also finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free with times of 45.73 and 21.22, respectively. Lytle was also a member of the winning 800, 400 and 200 free relay teams as well as the second-place 400-medley team.

Brandon Boyer, Clearfield: Boyer, a member of the Washington & Jefferson College team, had a good meet against Saint Vincent recently. He finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08, while taking third in the 50 free with a time of 23.10. Boyer was also a member of the second-place 400-medley relay team.
