By Josh Mlot Sports Writer
A number of local athletes continued to show their stuff at the college level as the spring season wrapped up. Here's a look at some of those recent accomplishments.

Track and Field
Rebecca Shiner, Clearfield: Shiner represented Westminster at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships in May, placing 20th in the 800 with a time of 2:24.98.

Nate Shadeck, Clearfield: Slippery Rock, helped by Shadeck's performances, finished the season ranked eighth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll.

John Bowman, Clearfield: Bowman represented Penn State-Erie well at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships on May 2 and 3, taking second place in the discus and fourth in the javelin.

Swimming
Chris Bodle, Clearfield: The Westminster freshman was recently recognized for his performance outside of the pool, being named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2008 semester.

Baseball
Matt Adams, Philipsburg-Osceola: As a sophomore at Slippery Rock, Adams has been racking up post-season honors after an impressive 2008 season in which he led The Rock with a .438 batting average, nine home runs and 44 RBIs. After being named to the All-PSAC Western Division team, the former Mountie earned a trifecta of All-North Atlantic Region nominations, being voted in by the sports information directors, American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Wednesday the utility player added to his collection with a second-team spot on the NCBWA's All-America team. It was the second time in as many seasons that Adams has collected each of the awards.

Tony Petulla, Philipsburg-Osceola: The Penn State-Altoona catcher was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region all-star team. He garnered a spot on the second team after receiving the second-most votes among nominated catchers. Petulla graduated in May with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Paul Keith, Moshannon Valley: The Penn State-Altoona junior was selected as his team's representative for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference All-Conference Sportsmanship team. Individuals are chosen because they represent the ideals of fairness, civility and respect both on and off the field.

Philip Solley, Curwensville: Solley helped Pitt-Bradford go 4-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament, going 4-of-10 with a run scored and two RBIs over the final two games - a 4-2 win over Penn State-Behrend and a 9-8 elimination loss to Behrend. Pitt-Bradford fell to Washington and Jefferson, 9-2, in the first round of the ECAC South Regional.

Bart McGary, Curwensville: McGary wrapped up his sophomore season with a 2-for-4 performance in Pitt-Bradford's AMCC tournament loss to Penn State-Behrend, before going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored against Washington and Jefferson in the ECAC South Regional.

Ryan Mostyn, Philipsburg-Osceola: The Indiana University of Pennsylvania junior was recently honored with a PSAC Top 10 award, given for both athletic and academic achievement. All Top 10 recipients are eligible for the Pete Nevins PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Mostyn, a team captain who helped the Crimson Hawks to a school-record 36 wins this past season, was also selected to attend the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Leadership Development Conference in Boston.

Softball
Brittany Pataky, Clearfield: After taking home its third straight PSAC and regional titles, Lock Haven traveled to Houston for the Division II National Championships where it went 2-2, falling to Humbolt St. 1-0 in 17 innings. Pataky went 0-for-2 in two pinch-hit appearances for the Lady Eagles in the tournament. Lock Haven finished the season with a record of 49-8.

Nikki Collins, Clearfield: Slippery Rock went 0-2 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional and were eliminated at the hands of Shippensburg, by a score of 4-0. Collins went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter in The Rock's first tournament game, a 5-4 extra-inning loss to No. 8 Bloomsburg.
