Nick Redden named to all-state team

Clearfield center Nick Redden was selected to the Associated Press Class AAA all-state first team Friday following an outstanding senior season. The 6-2, 258-pound lineman anchored an offensive line that paved the way for a pair of 1,000-yard backs and a 1,000-yard passer.
The Bison offense averaged over 360 yards per game and scored 34 points per game during its District 9 Championship season. He also started at defensive tackle where he had 46 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season.
"I don't know what to say," Redden said. "It's a huge honor. I'm shocked. I didn't expect this at all."
"I'm just very happy for him," Bison head coach Tim Janocko said. "It's a fantastic honor and Nick is very deserving. He worked very hard."
Redden said that he and coach Janocko had a tongue-in-cheek conversation early in the season about the all-state team and that it was a goal of his.
"I don't know exactly what we were talking about it, but I told coach not to tell me I couldn't do something. I said, ‘I'll prove you wrong.' So he said, ‘ok, you can't make the all-state team.'"
Redden has upcoming official visits to Duquesne and Pitt, and also has received attention from Toledo, Maryland, Syracuse, Bucknell and William & Mary to name a few.
"I definitely want to play in college, he said. "But I don't have a preference yet."
