Tower to be built on Harmony school property
Tuesday, November 03, 2009
WESTOVER - Harmony Area School Board heard two announcements at last night's meeting from district Superintendent Dr. Gunter H. Moritz.
Sprint, which provides Internet service, is constructing a new tower on school property. There is currently one there but it isn't high enough and the new one will be 10 feet higher, will not sway, will be firmer and will have a fence around it, Dr. Moritz said.
A graduation project by a student will be the construction of a Snack Shack to be placed near the gymnasium. It will not be permanent and is movable. The architect has reviewed the plans and there are no restrictions. It will have a George Foreman grill, pizza toaster and a refrigerator.
In other business, the board approved:
l a district-wide Parent Involvement Policy for the 2009-10 school year for Title I.
l a field trip for Life Skills students to Mahaffey Food Bank Thursday.
l the Pre-K Counts agreement between the school district and Warner's Early Learning Center.
l the Cisco Firewall equipment and Web blocker for the district from Link Computer along with a one-year subscription for updates at a cost of $4,220 from technology and $5,400 from instruction for a total of $9,570 with a $50 shipping fee included.
l policies for behavior support, assistive technology device, functional behavior and the first draft of the Harmony Area Strategic Plan that will be on review in the business office for 30 days.
l Kayla Feaster as assistant volunteer for elementary boys' basketball.
l Shane Putorek and Chelsey Heilman-Houser as advisers for the senior play/high school musical for the 2009-10 school year at a pay of $440.98 each.
l amending the teacher contract for extracurricular position pay to reflect assistant coaches to receive 60 percent of the level of pay.
l tenure for Lisa Kitko and Matt Woods.
l the resignation of Joy Mazenko effective Oct. 26 and advertising for the position.
The next meeting will be a work session Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
