Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Art shows
Susquehanna River Art Center is holding an art show in the first floor corridor of Clearfield Hospital. The art pieces are the work of some local artists. The show runs until March 17.
Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library and Susquehanna River Art Center are currently hosting showcases of four local artists - Christion Iraca, Faith Harmic, Josh Sykes and Gloria Rowles. The works will be on display in the Reading Room at the library until March 3.
If interested in purchasing any of the artwork, contact the artist directly. A portion of all sales will be donated to the library.

Art and craft sale
An art and craft sale will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School cafeteria. Proceeds will be donated to the Emily Whitehead family. Also available will be a bake sale, hot dogs and soda. If anyone would like to donate artwork or baked goods for the show and sale, call Jennifer Maruschak at 342-7050. Register for a door prize. Snow date is Feb. 24.

Fudge sale
A homemade fudge sale will be held Friday from 3-8 p.m. at County Market in Philipsburg to benefit the Relay For Life County Market and Rowdy Raymond teams. More than 10 flavors of fudge will be available. Prices are $4 for a half-pound and $7 for 1 pound.

Fundraiser event
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Hi-Way Pizza in Chester Hill will be donating 10 percent of all sales to the Philipsburg-Osceola PTO. Money raised from the sale will go toward fundraisers, assemblies, etc., for all the children at Osceola Mills Elementary, Philipsburg Elementary and North Lincoln Hill School.

Wings and Things
Wings and Things will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Mahaffey Fire Department firehall.
Items are available for eat-in or takeout. Orders for pickup may be called in to 277-6639.

An auction will be held Saturday at Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Volunteer Fire Co. at the Bigler hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the auction starts at 6 p.m. There will be toys, canned and frozen goods, produce and much more available. For more information, call 857-2135 or 857-5445.

Vera Bradley bingo will be held Saturday at The Smokehouse, Curwensville. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and games will begin at 4 p.m. The price is $25 for the basic package that includes 15 regular games, one entry in the grand prize drawing and light refreshments; and $45 for the specials package, which includes 15 regular games, three specials games, one entry into the grand prize drawing, 50 Chinese auction tickets, one bingo dobber and light refreshments.

The annual Lady Tide volleyball pancake and sausage breakfast will be held Saturday from 6-11 a.m. in the Curwensville Area High School cafeteria. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Takeouts will be available.

The Reitz Theater of DuBois will present "The Importance of Being Earnest," a trivial comedy for serious people Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., and Feb. 16-18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at Kohlhepp's True Value, Rosie's Book Shop, Catherine's Cache and S&T Bank on Liberty Boulevard, or can be reserved by calling 375-4274.

Country music night
Country music night will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Oklahoma Fire Co., located on Chestnut Avenue, DuBois. Music will be provided by Spruce Creek. Admission is free. The kitchen will be open. For more information, call Bill Roy at 894-2446.

Craft show
A craft show will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Madera Township building. The kitchen will be open. There will be a Chinese auction, candles, candy, woodcrafts and much more.

Hyde Fire Co. will hold a dinner Saturday from 3-7 p.m. to benefit the fire company. The meal includes meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, dessert and drink. Prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.
Mahaffey Fire Department is hosting a candlelight dinner Saturday from 5-7 p.m. and showing free movie immediately after. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. A limited number of tickets are available. The dinner includes stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, a dinner roll and dessert. A punch fountain and a chocolate fountain will be provided. For more information, call the firehall at 277-6639.

Shoe bank
Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg, will hold the Philipsburg-Osceola Shoe Bank Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children may receive a new pair of sneakers for free with an Access or CHIP card. The child must be present to be measured and receive the shoes. Children will receive a pair of sneakers every six months; those younger than age 3 will receive a new pair every three months. For more information, visit

Pancake and sausage brunch
A pancake and sausage brunch will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Clearfield Presbyterian Church. The price is $5 for all-you-can-eat or for dining in. Proceeds benefit Cub Scout Pack No. 2. For tickets or more information, call 765-4248.
Trap shoot
Glen Richey Sportsmen will host a trap shoot Sunday at 2 p.m. The price is $5 per round. The participant who shoots the white bird will receive a free round.

Turkey dinner
A turkey dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mountain Top firehall in Sandy Ridge. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, vegetable, roll and dessert. Prices are $8 for adults, $4 for children age 12 and younger free for children younger than 3. Takeouts are available and the meal is all-you-can-eat when eating in.

The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
