Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
Susquehanna River Art Center and Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, are sponsoring a SRAC showcase at the library through Saturday. Gourd artwork is displayed by artist Martha Bloom. Karen Neeper is displaying her work. Artwork by Dottie Evans and her students, Audrey Moore, Marilyn Selfridge, Katy Swartz, Corrine Rubbe, Nancy Beauseigneur, Kathy Mapes and Mary Ann Reilly, are displayed.
The live theater musical "Gypsy" will be performed Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. at Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre.
The Philipsburg-Osceola Area Winter Arts Gala and Open Mic will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Holt Memorial Library, Philipsburg. There will be student artwork on display and performances.
A quarter auction/paddle party will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Hyde Fire Co. to benefit the fire company ladies auxiliary. Vendors include The Candy Shop, Holiday House Primitives, Gary's Soaps, Cookie Lee, C.B. Gifts, Elaine's Beauty Bags, Avon and more. Door prizes will be offered from all vendors. Those attending should bring their own quarters, and most bids are a quarter. For more information, call Lisa at 592-7720.
Grampian Church of God will host a free meal Friday from 4:30-7 p.m. at the church, located along U.S. Route 219, just north of Grampian.
Roller skating benefit
A roller skating benefit will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Clearfield Skate Station, with proceeds going to THON, Penn State University's student-run philanthropy for pediatric cancer.
Those attending can support Chelsey Coudriet and Tess Bloom in their effort to independently dance in THON 2012. There will be music, baked goods and more. Admission is $5.
A Christmas bazaar will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Sandy Ridge. Crafts, baked goods and lunch will be available.
The Friends of Holt Memorial Library, Philipsburg, is having its monthly book sale Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs of the library. Hardback books are $1 and most paperbacks are 25 cents. There are various new selections from which to choose. The sale will be held in conjunction with the downtown Philipsburg Christmas parade. There will also be a raffle for an autographed Pittsburgh Steelers item.
Christmas craft show
A Christmas craft show sponsored by Harmony Music Boosters will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Visit with Santa from 10 a.m. until noon. There will also be crafts/vendors, soup and bake sale. Vendors are still being accepted, and can reserve a space by calling Barb at 277-4446.
The Clearfield B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 540 community Christmas will be held Saturday.
At 11:45 a.m., Santa arrives downtown by locomotive, with a small Christmas parade to follow at noon to the Clearfield B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 540. All community children are invited to the Elks at 12:30 p.m. for a Christmas party. They will receive a stocking, and hot dogs and cocoa will be served. From 1-5 p.m., children can play at Fun Central, coupons for admission and a soda and slice of pizza will be inside the Christmas stocking.
On Sunday at 2 p.m., a Christmas movie matinee will be held at the Ritz Theater. The movie is free of charge and open to the public. Children will be treated to a free small popcorn and a soda. The movie is sponsored by CNB Bank.
Breakfast with Santa
Clearfield Fire Department will host a breakfast with Santa Saturday from 8-11 a.m. at the Expo II Building. Participants should bring their own camera. The price for adults is $5 and children younger than 12 are admitted free.
Country music will be presented at Luthersburg Community Center Saturday, with the doors open at 6 p.m. and music at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Luthersburg Park and Recreational Board.
Flea market/craft sale
A holiday flea market and craft sale will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Osceola Mills United Methodist Church basement. Eight-foot table space is available for $10, and is payable in advance. Contact Betsy at 339-7124 or Brenda at 339-6139 for table space.
A luncheon will be available, and there will be a soup sale.
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, new pair of socks, stuffed animal and book. Children must have their Access or CHIP cards, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be present to receive sneakers. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.

An auction will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Madera firehall, with auctioneer Charlie Fisher.
Up for grabs will be various items to the highest bidder. The kitchen will be open.
Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Fire Co. Auxiliary will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the firehall along Jury Street. The menu includes regular scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with green peppers and onions, sausage, bacon, french toast, pancakes, home fries, and white or wheat toast. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number. The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
