Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
A winter art show, sponsored by The Susquehanna River Art Center and the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, is being presented at the library through Feb. 2. The show is open during regular library hours.
This show features many winter scenes in a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oil and mixed medium. There will also be other themes presented. Some of the artwork is for sale with a percentage of the sale price donated to the library. Anyone interested in purchasing artwork should contact the artist.
Wings and Things
Mahaffey firehall's Wings and Things dinner returns and will be held every Friday from 5-7 p.m. through the end of March. Menu items include wings with nine different sauces, hero fries, fish and chips, and many new food items. For more information, call 277-6634 or visit www.mahaffeyfire.com
Friends of the Library of Philipsburg will hold a book sale Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs of Holt Memorial Library. There will be many new selections from which to choose.
The Sneaker closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Children from birth through 18 years can receive a new pair of sneakers, a new pair of socks, a stuffed animal and a book. There will also be gloves, winter hats, scarves and a selection of boots while supplies last. Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Auxiliary Fire Co., located on Jury Road, will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the Bigler firehall. The menu includes regular or onion and pepper scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, white/wheat toast, home fries, bacon, sausage and fresh fruit. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.
Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey-Renaud Post No. 8386 will serve breakfast Sunday form 8-11 a.m. The menu includes bacon, eggs, fries, toast, juice and coffee. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.
Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will serve breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the post home. The cost is $5.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number. The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only, or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
