Armed robbery under investigation
Thursday, January 10, 2013
STATE COLLEGE - Yesterday at 10:24 a.m., State College police responded to Kranich's Jewelry Inc., 216 E. College Ave., for a report of an armed robbery. The alleged victims, who are employees of the store, reported that three black males wearing dark clothing and carrying backpacks entered the store.
The first male displayed a handgun and demanded the display case keys. Two additional males entered the store and aided in the robbery. Employees were placed on the floor while the display cases were being entered. It is believed that at least two of the males were armed.
No injuries were reported.
The first male is approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs approximately 180 pounds and was wearing a navy blue running suit and gray hoodie. He has a round face with a full, "stubbly" beard, is missing a tooth, and is lighter-skinned than the others. He was armed with a long-barrel silver handgun that appeared to be a revolver.
The second male is approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, shiny black shoes and a dark ball cap. He has a deep voice and had his face covered with a gaiter of some sort. He had a silver-colored revolver and carried a black Reebok bag.
The third male is dark-skinned, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches to 6 feet, 1 inch tall with a large build. He was wearing a blue or black waist-length jacket with a hood. He was also wearing a beanie cap with a logo and had his face covered.
The majority of merchandise was carried out by the third male in a large, blue or black duffle bag with a Mercedes-type logo on the side. The first male referred to another male as "Big." They fled the store with an undisclosed amount of jewelry, as well as a ring, watch and wallet of one employee. They were last seen walking south in the narrow walkway between Kranich's Jewelry and the Tavern Restaurant. The walkway exits onto East Calder Way.
