Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.

Thursday
Art show
A winter art show, sponsored by Susquehanna River Art Center and Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, is being presented at the library through Feb. 2. The show is open to the public during regular business hours.
This show features many winter scenes in a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oil and mixed medium. There will also be other themes presented. Some of the artwork is for sale with a percentage of the sale price donated to the library.
Anyone interested in purchasing artwork should contact the artist.

Dinner

A roast beef dinner will be served Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, located along Walnut Street, Curwensville.
Prices are $8.50 for adults and $4 for children. Meals may be eaten in the church's social hall or taken out.

Friday
Roller skating benefit
A roller skating benefit will be held Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Clearfield Skate Station. Proceeds raised will be donated to THON - Penn State University's student-run philanthropy for pediatric cancer.
Those attending Friday's benefit can support Chelsey Coudriet and Tess Bloom in their effort to independently dance in THON 2013. Admission is $5.

Saturday
Breakfasts
Goshen Township Sportsmen will sponsor a breakfast Saturday from 7-10 a.m. The breakfast will consist of pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice or coffee. Cost is $5. Memberships and corn cards will be available at this time.

Cooper Township Sportsmen's first breakfast will be held Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the clubhouse. Adult meals are $6 and children are $4. It includes a choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, home fries, toast, coffee and juice.
Corn will also be for sale at $5 per bag, with a two-bag limit for the first breakfast only. Those purchasing corn must have a membership. Chances on a gas smoker will be available to be raffled off at the last breakfast.

Free lunch
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at Fourth and Presqueisle streets, Philipsburg, will offer a free community lunch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu includes vegetable soup, sandwiches and brownies for dessert. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge for the lunch.
This ministry to the community is carried out by a team of community members and headed by Marsha Sallurday and Joann Pastir. Lunch will be served the third Saturday of each month until September.

Pancake breakfast
An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at Free and Accepted Masons Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515, located at Lingle and Coal streets, Osceola Mills. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children.
The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, juice and coffee.
Proceeds benefit Julia Tobias, who is experiencing multiple medical conditions.

Sneaker closet
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from birth through age 18 can receive a new pair of sneakers, new pair of socks, stuffed animal and book. There will also be gloves, winter hats, scarves and a selection of boots while supplies last.
Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.

Spaghetti dinner
A spaghetti dinner will be served Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Mahaffey firehall to benefit the Burnside/Mahaffey Food Pantry. The cost is a donation of non-perishable food items. Monetary donations are also appreciated. The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, dessert and beverage. The meal is sponsored by Community Volunteer Fire Department of Mahaffey.

Sunday
Auction
An auction will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Westover Fire Co. There will be snacks, frozen foods, dry goods, miscellaneous merchandise and much more. The kitchen will be open. Auctioneer is Charlie Fisher.

Breakfasts
Knights of Columbus will host a full breakfast Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the K of C building, located at Sixth Street and Arnold Avenue, Clearfield. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.

Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will host a breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. The cost is $5.

Dinner
A dinner will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Columbia Fire Co., Osceola Mills, at the firehall. Prices are $9.50 for adults and $6.50 for children. The menu includes pork chop, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, dessert, and a full salad bar for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available.

Shotgun shoot
Glendale Sportsmen's Club will hold shotgun shoots Sunday at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse, 2732 Black Elk Road, Irvona. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds. Meat prizes are awarded each round. The club will furnish the shells. For more information, call Jack at 672-5903 or Tom at 687-3308.
