Weekend Events is a weekly feature of The Progress published to alert readers about events planned by nonprofit organizations or events that benefit the community. All events are open to the public. The following events are planned this weekend in Progressland.
A winter art show, sponsored by Susquehanna River Art Center and Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield, will wrap up Saturday. The show features many winter scenes in a variety of mediums. Some of the artwork is for sale, with a percentage of the sale price donated to the library. Anyone interested in purchasing artwork should contact the artist.
A fish dinner will be served Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Columbia Fire Co., Osceola Mills, at the firehall. Prices are $10 for adults and $6.50 for children. Dinner includes a choice of fried or baked fish, potato, macaroni and cheese, vegetable, stewed tomatoes, and a full salad bar and two soups for eat-in only. Takeouts and deliveries are available.
The Friends of Holt Memorial Library of Philipsburg is having its monthly book sale Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs of the library. Hardback books are $1 and most paperbacks are 25 cents. There are new selections from which to choose. There will also be a raffle for an autographed Pittsburgh Steelers item.
The Goshen Township Sportsman will sponsor a breakfast Saturday from 7-10 a.m. The breakfast will consist of pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice or coffee. Cost is $5. Memberships and corn for those holding corn cards will be available at this time.
A breakfast will be held Saturday from 7-10 a.m. at the Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Club. The corn giveaway will be from 8-11 a.m. The menu includes sausage, gravy and biscuits or sausage and scrambled eggs, homefries, toast, juice or coffee. Prices are $5 for and $3 for children 12 and younger.
An all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast will be served Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon at Glen Richey firehall. Cost is $6 per person. The breakfast is sponsored by St. Timothy and Friends Relay For Life team. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Central Clearfield County June 1-2 at Clearfield.
The Cooper Township Sportsmen will have a breakfast Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the clubhouse in Winburne. Prices are $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. The breakfast includes a choice of bacon, sausage or ham, eggs, home fries, toast, juice and coffee. There will also be corn for sale at $5 a bag for club members. You must have a membership card to purchase the corn. Anyone may participate in the breakfast. Proceeds benefit the fish stocking and game feed.
The Sneaker Closet at Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from birth through 18 years can receive a new pair of sneakers, new pair of socks, stuffed animal and book. There will also be gloves, winter hats, scarves and a selection of boots while supplies last.
Children must have their Access medical card, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be present to receive sneakers and boots. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. For more information, call the church office at 765-9222.
St. Michael Orthodox Church, Irvona, will hold a soup sale Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the church hall. Homemade soups include chicken noodle, vegetable beef, and stuffed green pepper. Price is $7 a quart with your own container or $8 if no container.
Hyde Fire Co. will hold an auction to benefit the fire company Sunday at 3 p.m. There will be food, fresh produce and other items. Auctioneer will be Rose Court Auction Gallery.
Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 will hold a breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the post home. The cost is $5.
Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386 will serve a pancake and sausage breakfast Sunday from 8-11 a.m. at the post home. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.
A barbecue ribs or meatloaf dinner will be held at the Glen Hope firehall Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The dinner will include a choice of ribs or meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw or applesauce, roll, drink and dessert. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. Dine-in or takeouts will be available.
The Northern Clearfield County Hymn Sing will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Colonial Courtyard Senior Living Residence.
Osceola Mills firehall paddle party will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. There will be various local venders, and kitchen will be open. Bring quarters: $3 for first paddle and $1 for additional ones.
Super Bowl wing sale
Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Fire Department Auxiliary, 158 Jury Road, Bigler, will hold a Super Bowl Sunday wing sale Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Prices are $7 per dozen or a half dozen for $4, with sauce flavors including ranch, hot ranch, barbecue, hot barbecue, hot, plain, mild and butter and garlic. Walks-ins are welcome, and phone orders are available by calling 857-2135.
To have an event included, submit the information in writing to any office of The Progress by noon Tuesday. Late submissions will not be published, nor will submissions that do not include a contact person and daytime telephone number.
The Progress does not include bingo, club events that are limited to members and guests only or yard sales or flea markets by private individuals in the Weekend Events section.
