Fire destroys Ferguson Twp. garage
Monday, March 4, 2013
KERRMOOR - A garage at 165 Wendell Road, Ferguson Township, was destroyed by fire last night. Justin Bickel, fire chief for Grampian-Penn-Bloom Fire Co., said in an interview this morning, the source of the fire is undetermined and he will be meeting with the fire marshal later today for an investigation to determine a cause.
The garage is "a total loss," Bickel said. The garage owner's name was not immediately available.
There was one injured when a firefighter from Community Volunteer Fire Department of Mahaffey fell and broke his ankle. He was transported to Clearfield Hospital for treatment.
G-P-B Fire Co. was assisted by Mahaffey, Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.
Irvona and Glen Richey fire companies were also initially called but canceled while en route.
Bickel said firefighters had a very difficult time getting to the fire scene because of road conditions. Ferguson Township's road crew had to be called for road maintenance and some companies were forced to take a longer, alternate route, he said.
