Follow up to bus fire: Statement issued
Thursday, April 11, 2013
On Tuesday, a motor coach, owned and operated by Fullington Trailways of Clearfield, had a fire near Bradford around 5 p.m. A group of senior citizens were on board the motorcoach after spending most of the day at the Seneca Allegheny Casino in Salamanca, N.Y.
The 41 people, including the driver, got off the motor coach safely. The driver and other motorists stopped to assist the passengers off of the vehicle. The driver has been with the company for twenty years and has an excellent record.
While most of the passengers were uninjured, two people have been receiving medical treatment.
"Fullington Trailways is making sure those passengers receive excellent care and we expect they will be released from the hospital soon," said Jonathan Berzas, chief executive officer of Fullington. "The company also assisted the other passengers getting home."
Fullington will do all it can to replace any items that were lost. The company is cooperating fully with the authorities as investigators seek to find the cause of the fire.
Fullington has been safely serving passengers for 105 years, since 1908.
The company wishes to express its sympathy to those impacted by this incident.
"Every day, and on every trip we strive to make the experience on one of our motor coaches a great one and exceed our customer's expectations," Berzas said.
Fullington Trailways has a "Satisfactory" safety rating, the highest, from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. They are also a Department of Defense, Level One rated carrier, and they are authorized to transport military personal on trips and the company is also TSX approved, which means they can carry NCAA athletes to and from playoffs, tournaments and other sporting events.
