Preliminary hearing continued for alleged drug dealer Padgett
Thursday, February 13, 2014
By Jeff Corcino Staff Writer
Melissa D. Padgett, 28, of Clearfield, who is accused in seven separate cases of selling heroin to an undercover police officer, had her preliminary hearing continued until Feb. 26.
According to the affidavits of probable cause, between May and October of last year an undercover police officer with the Clearfield County Drug Task Force with the assistance of a confidential informant, purchased heroin from Padgett on seven separate occasions at various locations in Clearfield, Philipsburg, and Chester Hill, including several that were within 250 feet of a playground.
Her preliminary hearing was scheduled for yesterday morning at Centralized Court but it was continued by Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland after it was discovered there was a conflict of interest in the public defenders office, which was to represent her at the hearing.
Ireland delayed her hearing for two weeks so the court could appoint her a new attorney.
Padgett is incarcerated in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 straight bail.
